Scorpion was a member of the Shirai Ryu, after his family were killed he swore revenge. After being murdered by the Lin Kuei warrior Sub-Zero, Scorpion was sent to the Netherrealm. While there he met the necromancer Quan Chi who promised him that, if he fought for the Netherrealm in the Mortal Kombat tournament, he would get his revenge against Sub-Zero
